An introduction to wild edibles and foraging techniques
Have you ever wondered what grows in the forests and wetlands of Winnipeg and is good to eat? Maybe you're just curious about what wild food tastes like. Or perhaps you've wondered if you could survive in the wild if you had to find your own food.
Savour Winnipeg has partnered with outdoor educator and foraging fan Barret Miller to offer a Fantastic Forest Forage, a guided excursion that unearths the edible bounty available in our own back yard, and teaches you the basics of wild food gathering.
We'll cover plant identification, tools of the trade, tips and tricks for finding your favourite vitles, and sample some recipes with whatever we find.
Participants will also receive a take-home handbook summarizing everything we've covered and includes some of Barret and Ben's favourite recipes.
Who: Barret Miller is an special projects interpreter with FortWhyte Alive and founder of Channel Canyon Consulting. A.P. (Ben) Benton, foodie and founder of Savour Winnipeg is an outdoor enthusiast.
